ALUMNI CORNER

Congratulations to Rachel Gustin (September, 2005) and her husband, Tim, on the expected arrival of their first child in August.  Keep us posted, Rachel.

Aria Peterman (January 2007) sent us a hello from Alaska, where she landed in the middle of a winter storm.  Brrrrrrr, it's good to be in Sedona (even if I'm still wearing socks!)

Jennifer Johnson and Miya Signor (January 2006) are meeting in El Paso, Texas, on May 5th to drive down to Ceil Drucker's wedding!  Wonder which one will catch the bouquet?  Congratulations Ceil!

Here's the latest from Jessica Azeez (July 2006) She's attending Naropa University in Boulder, CO., majoring in - are you ready for this -----YOGA!   She is going to live in Israel this summer volunteering and teaching yoga at an orphanage.........Audra Friar (also from the class of July 2006) lives right down the street from her!  Jessica reports that Audra is planning a wedding in May.  How coincidental they ended up in the same neighborhood (?)

Oh, and by the way, Jessica doesn't have her dreads anymore - she combed them out after the training.

Sandi Harmon (July 2006) - is floating around somewhere in the Atlantic on a luxury yacht - how about an update, mate?

Note:  Alumni are encouraged to use this column to re-connect, catch-up, and/or share any experiences since graduation.  Send info to Sydney.

Welcoming the Spring

Thinking about "cleaning up your act"?  Periodic system cleanses are recommended as a way of improving health and well-being.  We were fortunate to have Gisela Kroeger-Hoffman present a 2 day workshop last month during the IYC 500 hour teacher training.  Gisela presented the 7 Physical Causes of Ill Health, which is the work her mother, Hanna Kroeger left as a legacy.

There was so much interest in the herbal and vibropathic products presented that we are now carrying an inventory of Kroeger Products. We continue to see VERY favorable results from these products. Some of the more popular products we have are the Candida Kit, the Paracleanse and the Protozoa kit.  There are also Chemical detox herbs for environmental toxins, including chemtrail fallout and a variety of digestive supplements. These products feature brilliant herbal combinations and are very reasonably priced. For more information, stop in and see us or go to the website, www.kroegerherb.com.

THE ENNEAGRAM OF PERSONALITY

Lawrence Graziose will be here on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21 to discuss the Enneagram of personality from a spiritual perspective.  This workshop explores the nine types of personalities in the Enneagram model.  Lawrence presents it with humor and self-reflection as an antidote to fixated thinking that is the root of all mental, emotional and physical tension.  Lawrence, a former Zen monk, offers a gateway out of reactive behavior through understanding this ancient esoteric psychology.

Come and experience Lawrence and his teachings.  He has has just returned from an extended visit to Thailand.  Public welcome Friday 6:30-9:00pm ($10), Saturday 10:30-4:30pm ($65) or both.  (Private appointments available on Sunday)

The Adventures of Lionheart,  Temple Cat

I recently received a letter inviting me into deeper relationship with Jesus.

Dear Lionheart,

Recently I saw some information about your yoga center. You probably know that the deeper aspects of yoga and the teachings of the Catholic Church have much in common, so I thought the enclosed brochures might be interesting.  Jesus's promise to all of us in his apparitions and messages to the Polish nun Saint Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) are truly Out of this World. To learn more read St. Faustina's famous diary, Divine Mercy in My Soul.

                          Humbly, A devotee of Jesus

It caused me to reflect on how much commentary there is comparing the life of Jesus and the life of Krishna, a great player in the Indian epic Bagavad-Gita.

"If one loves Krishna, he must love Lord Jesus also. And if one perfectly loves Jesus he must love Krishna too. If he says, "Why shall I love Krishna? I shall love Jesus," then he has no knowledge. And if one says, "Why shall I love Jesus? I shall love Krishna", then he has no knowledge either. If one understands Krishna, then he will understand Jesus. If one understands Jesus, you'll understand Krishna too" (Srila Prabhupada in conversation with Allen Ginsberg)

There is often a common goal found in many spiritual paths. It is just the way and the particulars that differ and create such a sense of separation. There is an ancient Japanese saying "There are many paths up the Mountain, but the view of the moon from the top is the same."

An Ayurvedic Home Remedy:   Oil Pulling

You may be thinking -- what the heck is Oil Pulling?

REPORTED CURES WITH OIL PULLING:
Mouth & Gum Disease; Stiff Joints; Allergies; Asthma; High Blood Sugar; Constipation; Migraines; Bronchitis; Eczema; Heart, Kidney, Lung Diseases; Leukemia; Arthritis; Meningitis; Insomnia; Menopause (hormInaya Sesame Oilonal issues); Cancer; AIDS; Chronic Infections; Varicose Veins; High Blood Pressure; Diabetes; Polio; Cracked Heels.
OIL PULLING INSTRUCTIONS:
First thing in the morning, after brushing your teeth but before eating or drinking, take 1 TBSP of either sesame or sunflower oil. Put the oil in your mouth, tilt your chin up and slowly swish, suck, chomp and pull through the teeth. Do this for at least 10 minutes. 15 - 20 minutes is better. You want the oil to become a thin, white foam when you finally spit it out. If it's still yellow, you haven't done it long enough. You can do this 2 more times during the day if you want to detox faster. Make sure you do it on an empty stomach, however. Spit it out in the toilet when your mouth is full and rinse your mouth out well. Follow with 2 - 3 glasses of water.
DO NOT SWALLOW THE OIL!
It now contains parasites and bacteria!
DO NOT GARGLE IN THE THROAT! DO IT SLOWLY!

HOW IT WORKS:
The oil pulls all mucous, bacteria and toxins from your body through your saliva. According to Ayurvedic medicine, mucous is a poison that must be removed.

Here are a few paragraphs from Bharat Savur's article on The Hindu Business Online ..."When Dr Karsch examined the gargled milk-white oil under a microscope with 600 magnification, he saw live organisms swimming in it. It's
poisonous, so never swallow it, he warns. These poisons are bacteria-embryos, which, if not eliminated, cause diseases. Apparently, Dr Karsch cured his own chronic blood disease and 15-year-old arthritis. The first sign of improvement is in the teeth-they become firm and white, he says. Other healing indications: fresh, relaxed feeling on waking up, disappearing dark pouches below the eyes, a new appetite and energy, better memory and deep sleep."

The above article was published in Journal of World Teletherapy association (APR - JUN 1992 issue) from Calcutta.

Vedic Astrology

Retrograde Planets

As the planets move through the zodiac, at certain times they change motion or direction, and become retrograde. Retrograde planets are said to not give typical results. Events occurring under a retrograde period of a planet may manifest in an unusual, unplanned, or eccentric way. Some astrologers believe a retrograde planet is more powerful, causing its natural significations to express in a more intense or karmic way. So the planet involved may exhibit more of its qualities, whether of a positive or negative nature.

In a positive way, retrograde planets can express in a more internalized and reflective way. They can be more subtle and humble, focusing on self-knowledge. If expressed in a more negative way, retrograde planets are more isolating and can block or inhibit our awareness of self.

The planets that can be retrograde are Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. The Sun and Moon never change direction – they are always moving forward in a direct fashion. The nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu, are another exception, as they naturally move in a backward direction. So there are just five planets that change motion in Vedic astrology.

At the times when a planet is shifting direction, just before or after retrograde motion, the planet can give very strong effects. We will have two major planets changing direction in April. On April 5, 2007, the planet Jupiter goes retrograde until August 6, 2007. As Jupiter rules prosperity, knowledge, education, wisdom and one’s spiritual teacher, it could be a good time to connect more deeply to one’s “inner guru” via meditation and uncover the “riches” there.

The other planet changing direction is Saturn. On April 19, 2007, Saturn will go direct, after being retrograde since December 5, 2006. Saturn rules structure, form, hard work, discipline, service, and charity. So this may be a time for more concrete and stable manifestations to occur. We may be more serious and responsible in our outer expressions now and in service to others and our world.

Debra Infante, Vedic astrologer, can be reached at (928) 639-0623 for astrological consultations, either in person or by phone.
