The Adventures of Lionheart,  Temple Cat

7 Centers Yoga Arts Sister Studio
PARSA Kabul, Afghanistan

Our studio features:
• Yoga practice that does not require yoga mats, as
we have none.
• A Muslim privacy curtain for coed yoga classes
for Afghans so that men and women are
separated during the instruction.
• A door that locks as our staff insists on trying to
serve tea during yoga sessions to our guests.
• A meditation series called “focusing” based on Eugene Gendlin’s work using the Afghan poet, Rumi’s poem “The Guest House” as the meditation imagery to transform reactions to thoughts and feelings. (adapted to Afghan culture by Dr. Patricia Omidian)
• “Yoga for Kids” outreach program for the orphanages we are working in.
• Four yellow Afghan cousins of 7 centers Lionheart the Temple cat. They are called “Dirty Socks”, “Little Lion”, “Rock Bunny” and “Bruiser”-they are not as refined as Lionheart in his understanding of the yoga arts but they are good at advising on how to stay sane while working in Kabul.
• A resident American yoga instructor, Molly Howitt, who has taken on the heroic and lonely job of training four of our Afghan physiotherapy staff in Yoga.
Since following the yoga and meditation practice my sister designs for me routinely is what has kept me healthy in mind and body during the last two years of working in Afghanistan, I am anxious to see if we could begin an exchange program to get some yoga instructors to come and conduct basic workshops for our Afghan trainees. All and any support would be deeply appreciated. My son, Colin, just visited us and he can address anyone’s security concerns about travel. I have posted his journal at www.marniegustavson.blogspot.com
Salaam!!!!
